New York City schools enrolled 14,000 more students than had been projected and about half of them require special education services, School Chancellor Klein said this week.
Last year, the NYC school system enrolled an additional 18,000 students with special needs – bringing the total number of students with special needs up from 159,000 to 177,000 students.
In addition, fewer than 25 percent of eligible New York City special education students graduated last year.
