Resources for Children with Special Needs (RCSN) is New York City’s only independent nonprofit organization that works for families and children with all special needs, across all boroughs, to understand, navigate, and access the services needed to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop their full potential.

RCSN is a dynamic place to volunteer and learn--small enough to give volunteers and interns hands-on experience, but with enough reach to make a real difference. We are currently looking for highly motivated interns that want hand-on experience in the below areas. The successful candidate should be interested in being a part of a dynamic non-profit team.

Current intern/volunteer opportunities:

COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH INTERN

The Communications and Outreach Intern will gain direct experience in marketing, branding, community outreach and public relations, with applications relevant to non-profit and for-profit organizations and campaigns.  This position will be supervised by the Director of Outreach and Marketing. As an RCSN Intern you will work closely with all aspects of the organization including the senior leadership team.

Depending on your background and/or interests, your work may include:

                       Editorial

                       Graphics design

                       Video (shooting and production)

                       Social and online media  

                       Events (marketing and execution)

                       Public Relations strategy and implementation

                       Metrics tracking and analysis

                       General administrative work

Requirements:         

Background knowledge or coursework: Design, Film, Art, Marketing, PR, English, Communications, Non-Profit Management/Administration, Spanish speaking preferred, Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (required) and other relevant publishing and productivitytools (preferred) , including the Adobe Design Suite, Final Cut, and/or iMovie, experience in video production/editing, ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines, sense of humor and propriety.

Terms

10-20 hours per week  Start date/term – flexible

EVALUATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY INTERN

We are currently looking for highly motivated Interns that have a passion for helping those in need. The successful Intern should be interested in being a part of a dynamic non-profit team and want to make a real impact in the future of the organization.

The Evaluation and Accountability Intern will support the program and operations of RCSN by utilizing SPSS and other database reporting tools providing vital reporting that assist in the optimization of services. You will help streamline evaluation systems, enabling more effective reporting of findings. You will help create processes that enable staff to keep up-to-date entry of all evaluations and Salesforce data.

This position will be supervised by the Director of Operations. As an RCSN Intern you will work closely with all aspects of the organization including the leadership team.

Skills and/or Experience Required:

Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student with strong research and writing skills

Experience with data analysis and statistical programs a plus (ArcGIS, SPSS, MS Access, Survey Monkey)

Experience with SalesForce Customer Relations Management product a plus

Familiarity with education policy and urban public education a plus

Strong organization skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines

Self-starter with the ability to work independently and has excellent inter-personal and communication skills, strong desire to work in social service areas

Experience with research design and coordination and has high level of writing and analytic skills  

Spanish language ability a plus

Project Design and Evaluation: From start to finish, you will work with staff to help design, administer, analyze and write participatory evaluations of RCSN programs and services.

Agency Policy Review: With staff you will research, develop and present ground-up policy perspectives to staff and agency leadership. 

Education Evaluation Design and Research: Our trainings and services assist parents in designing and conducting advocacy for their own child.  You will help design an assessment process that helps monitor long term impacts of RCSN services on those we serve.

Strategic Planning Research: You will conduct background research and help develop strategic plans in support of agency objectives and goals.
