Because the New York State budget was not passed on time, the Legislature enacted a temporary spending bill to continue providing certain funding until April 11.  The next temporary bill is being prepared now.

The current temporary spending bill continues Medicaid funding, which covers most services for people with developmental disabilities.  But it does not include funding for important non-Medicaid OMRDD services, such as family support services, individual supports and services (ISS), day training, sheltered workshops, and some senior services.  (ISS provides goods, services, and subsidies for rent and other essentials to individuals who could not manage without them.)

The Legislature will pass its next temporary spending bill quickly.  We must advocate immediately to ensure that funding is included for ALL OMRDD SERVICES.

Tell your legislators:

In the next temporary spending bill, it is imperative to include funding for ALL OMRDD services.  If funding is not provided, tens of thousands of people with developmental disabilities will have their services disrupted, including many who would not be able to pay their rent or utility bills.  In addition, many agencies won’t be able to pay their workers, and some of the smaller agencies could close.
