If your child is...
     • between the ages of 5 and 21,
     • has a developmental disability, and
     • is not receiving the appropriate educational services

You are not alone.

The Manhattan Developmental Disabilities Council presented its 21st Annual Legislative Breakfast on Friday March 5th at Barnes & Noble Union Square. With Helene Craner, RCSN Associate Director, as Chair of the Legislative Committee, the event drew over 200 people to discuss current issues with key city, state and federal legislators.

Give one - or all! - of these activities a try with your afterschool group this week:

1. Using words that display kindness

Provide some examples to the group of words that display kindess & compassion:

  • Let me help you.
  • I like your hair today.
  • I’m sorry.
  • Thank you!
  • Let’s work together.

Make a point of catching children using words that display kindness and compassion.  Give immediate positive reinforcement.  Ask children how it felt both to give a compliment and receive a compliment.
